Three Reasons Why An Engagement Session Is A Good Idea

Many of our couples are on the fence about having their engagement photos taken.  I get it.  It feels strange being involved in a photo shoot that's all about you.  I often hear that my couples don't like to be the center of attention but the fact is, you will be the center of attention on your wedding day. This is exactly why I think an engagement photo shoot is a very good idea... below are my top three reasons.

1.  An engagement session is the perfect time to get comfortable having your photos taken. To get comfortable being the center of attention.  To learn to relax and let loose a bit in front of the camera, with your partner, before your wedding day.  If the thought of having your photos taken terrifies you, the engagement session will help to build your confidence and put you at ease.  It will help you to feel relaxed, authentic and natural on your wedding day.  It's like a trial run.

2.  You can really get to know your photographer.  You will get to see how a photographer works and what their style is.  They may ask you to move or pose in a certain way and this is the best time to practice and see what feels right.  You can give them feedback on what feels comfortable and what doesn't.  You will have a chance to really connect with them on a personal level and I bet you even come away being friends.

3. It's time to have fun!  I know, you're thinking, Did she say, fun?  Yes, fun!  It will give you and your partner time to enjoy some time together, alone.  You can get as creative as you want with the location and outfits but remember to stay true to yourself.  And most importantly, celebrate you, your partner, your engagement time and your love.  At the end of the day you will have some killer images too to hang in your home, share with family or on social media and save-the-dates.

Your engagement shoot is often included in a wedding package but if not, don't try to save money on this one.  I consider the engagement shoot 'splurge' worthy to help ensure that you and your partner are already comfortable in front of the camera and with your photographer on wedding day.  Let's chat more about your engagement shoot soon!
